why I decided to become a Green Circle Salons salon!

When I first started working at Good Hair Day I was quite shocked that there was no recycling options in place. Living in Whistler, BC this is a part of the life blood of this town so naturally I thought it was a no brainer. After working for several months I realized what a big job it is for 1 person and that maybe recycling wasn’t a priority at the time. No judgement, I hardly recycled in my home 5 years ago...

Whistler DOES change you for the better though and when I purchased the salon in April and started building Süco’s I knew becoming a Green Circle Salon was a MUST. Giving back in my own way, through my passion, was on the list of top priorities. Last month I got my start up package and went to work creating my little set up.

Now, it hasn’t even been 1 month and the amount we save from the landfill is incredible! Green Circle Salons collects used foils, aerosol cans, color tubes, electronics (blowdryers, flatirons, etc), left over color, hair, paper, plastics, and even our nail and last techs are on board because they recycle spa waste too!! And with Whistler’s recycling center being right across the street there are NO EXCUSES why this can’t be done. ��

Here are some fun facts from Green Circle Salons:

*GCS donates the hair they collect to an organization that uses it for oil spills.

*63,000 lbs of hair gets thrown away every day. Can you believe it!?!

*hair is also used in animal shelters as kitty and puppy bed stuffing. AWWW....

*3.35 million lbs of waste was diverted from our landfills and waterways by GCS members across Canada and US since 2009!

*in 2018 GCS diverted 198,165 lbs of solid waste and 8,295 L of chemical waste from our landfills.

*foils are collected, neutralized, and recycled. YES!!

*lastly, 877 lbs of salon waste goes into the landfill every minute!! ~ not at Süco’s. ��

So where do you come in? By getting your hair done at Süco’s you are making an impact too. You are assisting in reducing your footprint and recycling while you are in our chairs. A small amount ($2) is added to every color service to allow us to work with GCS and become a better part of our town. Any questions? Always Ask.

Wedding Season is one of my all time favourite seasons throughout summer months. Being a part of someone’s special day, bringing out the natural beauty of one’s face and showcasing all the love that one feels in one morning....It’s a crazy time in a brides life and the styling can make or break it for some.

My one rule on wedding day is to ‘choose your Bridezilla moment’. We ALL have one so own up to it and choose wisely! Remembering what this day is about and why we are really celebrating is one way to focus. My job, is to take one pressure off and to finish off the look by making sure you feel like yourself but glowing with all the love in your heart....Easy Peasy right?! ��

Let me help you with some major wedding day tips that will make the whole thing run a lot more smoothly.

1. Book a stylist well in advance and share some inspiration photos. Have your colour done before as well in case you need any tweeking.

You can do a style trial if you choose but sometimes it isn’t necessary, depending on the desired look. If you choose to do a trial I recommend booking it closer to your date so it’s fresh in our minds and you’re solid on your choice of style.

2. On the day of your wedding, relax....be sure to eat and hydrate because it’s going to be a long day full of MAJOR emotions. Don’t ever worry though, you got this.

3. Be sure to grab a gloss from your stylist to reapply through the night. I always leave them with at least a mini sample that fits in your purse. I also coach my brides to blot, not rub your eyes when those tears of joy start rolling. �� It’s gonna happen....

4. Lastly, I love when my brides share photos of their finished look so I can have a copy for my portfolio and be able to remember their beautiful day for years to come.

welcome to süco's!

Hello and welcome to Süco's. What a beautiful community I've become a part of here in Function. As I get to know you I believe it's time you got to know me! Here's my journey in a blog post....

I started my hairdressing adventure in Regina back in the day after my first son was born. I needed a career and thought I would try esthetics and thinking I needed cosmetology as a prerequisite I made my way to Richard’s Beauty Collage! Flash forward a few years and I was a happy and excited graduate with my cosmetology and esthetician certificates.

I did my first 6 year stint at an amazing salon, Rumors Hair Studio, and quickly realized that I talked WAY too much to stay a relaxing esthetician, and had so much fun doing hair I stuck with it. I continued to build my career and moved through 2 other highly regarded salons in Regina. Salon Fli and then Salon 306. What interesting and different experiences!!

During my time at Salon 306 I got married and popped out a couple babies. It was after my second son that I decided to open up shop in my home to be with my family and keep my business going with my loyal clients. Once my daughter was born the load got heavy.....funny how you can only do so much at one time! Those babies are DEMANDING!!

Deciding to stay home was a little strange at first but it lead me to realize what is truly important in life. Family and slowing down was a priority for me and it was then that we decided to head out to BC, the unknown, the exciting journey.....this journey lead us to the beautiful mountain town of Whistler, and well, we’re here to stay! Such an easy town to fall in love with, wouldn’t you agree?

After my youngest daughter started into kindy this September I knew it was time to get back to work. Excited to build my salon family, help people achieve their hair goals, and carve out a little space for myself in Whistler I ventured out and introduced Süco’s to the world. After working at Good Hair Day in Function word of it’s closing was inevitable, but before I knew it I was in the process of buying and expanding my vision of my future. You never know quite what the world has in store for you, but if you cast a vision and believe in yourself, the possibilities are endless.
